Littleshoes Productions Presents:

SixCharacters in Search of an Author

Unitarian Church, Prince’s Street, Cork
1st & 2nd  June 2017, 8pm

June 2017 – Littleshoes Productions were proud to present Luigi Pirandello’s masterpiece, Six Characters in Search of an Author. This remarkable play found its home in Cork’s Unitarian Church on Prince’s Street on 1st and 2nd June at 8pm nightly, where the absurd met reality in this newly adapted and contemporary retelling of this world-revered play.

Six Characters in Search of an Author presents the playwright’s views about reality being merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. This play within a play chronicles six characters as they seek an author to tell their story, and to present their real lives on stage. But do their realities make better tales than fiction? Noted for being a stage comedy of the darkest form, this contemporary version, shows moments of darkness upended by the lightness of reality, allowing the audience to be transported on a roller-coaster of emotions from horror to immediate laugh-out-loud moments and everything in between and back again.

The play, originally written in Italian (Sei personaggi in cerca d’autore), helped lay the foundation for the Theater of the Absurd, a literary genre popular in the second half of the twentieth century. However, this modern-day version is adapted and directed by arts professional Sinéad Dunphy known for her work as manager of the Cork International Choral Festival, director, tutor and founder of Littleshoes Productions Theatre Company and Acting Classes along with directorial credits such as The Vagina Monologues, King Lear, Pericles – Prince of Tyre, London Suite, California Suite, and Womberang, to name but a few. Along with lighting design by Aoife Cahill, sound design by Mícheal Murphy and costumes by Lisa Zagone – this production is sure to bring its audiences on an incredible journey of philosophical questioning of where reality begins and pretence ends.

Tickets were available both on the door and from Eventbrite.ie at the affordable price of €15, however booking fees may apply.
